    NORSAR Software Suite release notes

    • NORSAR Software Suite 2019 (2019.0.41407 September 30, 2019)

      This is a bugfix and maintenance release which addresses the following issues:

      Survey

      • Improved display of indices in survey subselection editor. Can now see all digits.

      Illumination Maps (IMAP), Survey Domain Workflows

      • Fixed crash when mapping into shot points or receiver points. Happened mostly with SPS type surveys.
      • Fixed that some receiver point coordinates were distorted in the maps.
      • Fixed that making maps in CMP domain sometimes caused a crash.

      Make 2.5D model from 2D model 

      • It was possible to make an illegal 2.5D model from a 2D model which caused a crash. Will now show an error message when making a 2.5D model from an incomplete 2D model.

      In addition: Minor stability fixes and improvements.

    • NORSAR Software Suite 2019 (2019.0.41338 September 6, 2019)

      NORSAR Software Suite 2019 has introduced the advanced and powerful NORSAR-2D Ray Modelling tool in a completely new user-friendly wrapping.  It is the first step towards a full integration in the NORSAR Software Suite framework. A sophisticated 2D Model Builder has been unveiled, supported on both Linux and Windows.  The 2D Model Builder is available in all version of NORSAR Software Suite. In addition, NORSAR-3D is extended with support for fiber optics (DAS) modelling and new functionality for VSP modelling.  

      This bug fix release includes further improvements and bug fixes.
       

      Release details

      Survey

      • More robust handling of using shot line selection in survey import SPS.
      • Improved performance of display of large surveys and handling in workflows.
      • Improved handling of undefined shot and receiver positions that caused problems in SeisRoX as well as Illumination Rays and Interactive Wavefront Tracer workflows.

      Properties

      • Improved handling of undefined values in property cube smoothing.
      • Fixed issue with window layout in SEGY Property Import (user defined).

      Illumination Rays (IRAY)

      • Survey Dependent IRAY Workflow:
        • Fixed empty Rose Plot for anisotropic models.
      • Survey Independent IRAY Workflow:
        • Fixed bug accepting too many contributions.
        • Fixed empty Rose Plot due to one invalid ray.
      • Better error handling to avoid unwanted empty roses.

      Seismogram Generator

      • Introduced receiver sub-selection, except of SPS and P190 type surveys.

      3D General Model Builder

      • Improved smoothing and extrapolation, especially for not strictly single-valued interfaces.
      • Improved clipping by polyline - clip all the way through.
      • Improved adaptive triangulation algorithm to get fewer triangles in gridded surface uploaded from Objects’ list.

      2D Model Builder

      • Implemented coordinate conversion in horizon import/export.
      • Warning if imported horizons are not on a section.
      • Introduced interface splitting.
    • NORSAR Software Suite 2019 (2019.0.41061, May 16, 2019)

      NORSAR Software Suite 2019 introduces the advanced and powerful NORSAR-2D Ray Modelling tool in a completely new user-friendly wrapping. It is the first step towards a full integration in the NORSAR Software Suite framework.

      This first version unveils a sophisticated 2D Model Builder, supported on both Linux and Windows. The 2D Model Builder is available in all versions of NORSAR Software Suite.

      In addition, NORSAR-3D is extended with support for fiber optics (DAS) modelling and new functionality for VSP modelling. Several improvements and bug fixes are also included.
       

      Release details

      2D Model Builder

      • A completely new tool to build 2D ray tracing models.
      • Fully integrated digitizing tool using a background image.
      • Convert seamless from 2D to a 2.5D model. Use 3D interactive tracing.

      Illumination Map

      • New DAS VSP filter. Filter by incident angle to the DAS cable.
      • Display VSP attributes along a well.

      Event Attribute Extractor

      • Export computed incident angle to the DAS cable. 
      • Apply filter on the incident angle before exporting.
      • Export relative amplitude response along DAS cable.

      MESA Connector

      • Associate the exported attributes with the individual shots and receivers. Allows the attributes to be used on shot and receiver level in MESA Survey design.

      SeisRoX

      • Added subselection of PSDM simulation results when exporting as SEG-Y cubes.
      • Added option for scaling PSDM simulation results when exporting as SEG-Y cubes.
      • Added option for resampling PSDM simulation results when exporting as SEG-Y cubes.

      Bug fixes and improvements

      • Improved re-tracing in the Wavefront tracer, IRAY and Flowerplot.
      • Improved Color bar handling. The user can now click directly on the color bar to change settings.
      • Fixed wrong units for the model box in the single block model builder. 
      • Fixed wrong units in make analytic property grid.
      • Fixed crash when clipping property inside block in the general model builder.
      • Fixed that extrapolation of an interface could distort the interface grossly.  
      • Fixed issues with smoothing of S-wave velocities.  
      • Fixed that was not able to make a receiver sub-selection in workflows.  
      • Fixed slow workflow list update if large survey.
      • Fixed error in grid layer cake model if too long interface names 
      • Improved interface intersection (cut) in the general model builder. 

      In addition: Many minor stability fixes and improved help.

    • NORSAR Software Suite 2018.1 (2018.1.40336, September 14, 2018)

      This is a bugfix and maintenance release which addresses the following issues:

      Illumination Map, Simulated Migration Amplitudes

      • Fixed a bug in handling of complex SPS-type surveys. Too restricted in how many receiver sub cubes were allowed for a shot.
      • Fixed bad handling of tracing results with static event storage
      • Fixed that export of Survey domain illumination maps frequently failed with error that no geometry defined 

      Tracer workflows

      • Fixed event storage policy menu not correctly available in Advanced tracing parameters.
      • Fixed that retracing and reflection/arrival point plotting could not handle static event attribute storage, and non-standard event storage order
      • Fixed that retracing failed without warning when attributes required for retracing were not stored in results. Added warnings.
      • Retracing: Fixed a bug in “Acceptance distance” leading to unexpected results from changing the parameter

      Event Attribute Extractor

      • Fixed bad handling of tracing results with static event storage

      Framework

      • Fixed that dots in object names (for example models) caused unexpected behaviour

      General Model Builder

      • Fixed that interface lists in horizon- and block editing did not update correctly after a split operation
    • NORSAR Software Suite 2018.1 (2018.1.40223, July 3, 2018)

      NORSAR Software Suite 2018.1 is a new main release featuring new functionality for time-depth conversion and an enhanced Kirchhoff Target Migration allowing for both isotropic and anisotropic models. In addition, several improvements and bug fixes are included.

      • Bug in plotting of dynamic workbox based on shot selection in workflow

      Illumination Ray Workflow

      • Fixed unit conversion error in offset grid setup

      • Option for filtering out events with supercritical reflections was ignored in generation, always allowing all events, unless a topological receiver subselection was defined, in which case the value was wrongly handled
      • Added option to filter on all, first or most energetic event
      • Fixed frequent crashes on cancelling generation process
      • Improved archiving if generated from tracer workflow results

      Seismogram Generation Workflow

      • Improved archiving if generated from tracer workflow results

      This is a bugfix release which addresses the following issues:

      SeisRoX Local - Survey workflows

      • Bug in computation of Green's Function survey from some multi-survey input geometries when the individual surveys were flat and at different depths. This could lead to empty results

      NORSAR MESA Connector

      • Enable NORSAR Software Suite side of MESA connector on linux

      Survey Generator - Fixed survey

      • Failed to generate fixed survey when the project path contained spaces 

      Tracer workflow result logs

      • Showed the wrong CPU time 

      Common shot wavefront tracer

      • Missing help on ray removal parameters

      Eclipse model import

      • Occasional crash in preview mode

      SEGY Property Import

      • Misleading information text when importing symmetry axes. Not all components listed
    • NORSAR Software Suite 2018 (2018.0.39597, February 22, 2018)

      This is a bugfix release which addresses the following issues:

      Wavefront tracer

      • Handle rare cases in anisotropic models where numerical instability causes  travel time computations to collapse and output faulty travel times.

      Distributed machine setup

      • Added a consistency check on remote machines to enable a quick fix if remote machines point to a different version of the software than the front-end machine.

      It will work for homogenous systems with standard setup.

      Kirchhoff Prestack Modelling Workflow

      • Improved scalability on job distribution
      • More efficient cleanup in final merge task
      • Fixed a bug in resource probing when recovering a failed workflow run

      Note: Failed or canceled workflows, which have been run with older NSS versions, must not be recovered. Require full re-run.

      Kirchhoff Target Migration Workflow

      • Fixed bug in computing target bounds from Kirchhoff prestack target model if no sub-area was selected.
      • Improved scalability on job distribution.
      • More efficient cleanup in final merge task.

      License handling of sub-processes

      • More efficient license checking to avoid license server crash on heavily parallelized workflows.

      Project selection

      • When entering a path in the project directory field of the main window, a project selector pops up if the path is not a valid project.

      Common Shot Tracer – Travel time cube workflow

      • Fixed problem with shot index in SEGY export of travel time cubes.
      • Archiving: Include shot index information.

      Property operations (object list)

      Unit conversion error in "Extrapolate distance" field.

      Time-Depth conversion of grid surfaces

      Fixed handling of undefined positions.

    • NORSAR Software Suite 2018 (2018.0.39522, January 12, 2018)

      New functionality

      Areal filters

      Areal filters based on logic combinations of polygons. These new filters can be applied in illumination map/SMA generation and retracing.

      Framework and Viewer

      • Added option to display property slices without interpolating data values
      • Added option to select multiple surfaces for delete in object list

      Illumination/Simulated Migration Amplitudes Maps

      • A specific map is generated by combining the 'Target SMA Amplitudes' and the 'Constant Reflectivity Target SMA Amplitudes'. For this map, the effect of Survey and Overburden is removed, resulting in a sort of 'true amplitude' map, quantifying an approximation of an average reflection coefficient for the reflection angles involved. This map attribute is called 'SMA Normalized'.
      • Added histogram for attribute plots

      Survey generation

      A new survey generator for defining surveys for different shot geometries, where the receivers are located on a regular 3D grid.

      SeisRoX

      Simplified way to generate multiple offset based survey sub-selections.

       

      Bug fixes and improvements

      Event attribute Extractor

      • Blanks in the project path handled also on windows.
      • Reflection coefficient phase was displayed in radians even if degrees was specified.
      • Wrong dip values on shot take-off vector.

      SEGY Property Import

      • Handle sample formats 2 and 3. Previously only sample formats 1 and 5 were handled.
      • Bugfix on import large SEG-Y property cubes.

      GoCad TriMesh Import

      • Added option to specify whether Z axis is pointing up- or downwards.

      Illumination Map/Simulated Migration Amplitude workflows

      • When a project is defined in other units than km, multi-map ranges listed were wrong for some attributes.
      • When generating maps from a tracer workflow with multiple ray codes defined, the ray code display in the workflow was wrong
      • Cleaning up unfinished illumination map and SMA workflows was incomplete if parallel, which could cause failure when re-running
      • Fixed crash when setting up advanced color maps
      • Advanced color maps not displayed by color legend

      Simulated Migration Amplitude Workflows

      • Improved default parameters for constant impedance map generation

      Wavefront Tracer workflows

      • Added additional advanced parameters for removal of rays. Max relative geometrical spreading
      • Receiver topology sub-selection in retrace parameters were not updated when changing workflows
      • If S-velocity was illegal for some shots, and one or more ray codes started with an S-segment, the tracing failed
      • Linux only: Allow for using rsh when starting remote processes
      • Linux only: Allow to specify external directories for event storage

      Modelling Project Setup

      • Wrong z-unit used at some places when the project is defined in kfeet

      General Model Builder

      • Only interfaces that are shown in the interface list can be selected for editing.

      Framework and Viewer

      • Fixed bug in reflectivity plot of SeisRoX models appearing when some positions are undefined

    • NORSAR Software Suite 2017.3 (2017.3.39218, November 20, 2017)

      This is a bugfix release which addresses the following issues:

      Illumination Map Workflows, Simulated Migration Amplitudes workflows

      • Map generation failed if there were blanks/spaces in the path to the modelling project. (Windows only, blanks/spaces in project path is not supported on Linux.)

      Wavefront tracer

      • Fixed an issue in velocity lookups that occasionally caused shots to be reported as failed when they were not, if property values are “invalid”

      Interactive wave front tracer workflow

      • More efficient storing of wavefronts. (Note: Earlier versions of NORSAR Software Suite will not be able to read wavefronts stored with this version)

      Distributed job execution

      • Allow using RSH instead of SSH when starting distributed scheduling agents

      3D Viewer

      • Fixed bug in obtaining value range for 1st order and 2nd order derivative plots in models

      NORSAR-3D

      Image ray tracer workflow - NEW

      This new workflow constructs time surfaces (time grids) corresponding to time migrated horizons from a given NORSAR3D depth model.

      NORSAR-MESA Connector (Windows only) - NEW

      The MESA-NORSAR connector provides direct, fast transfer of data between MESA and NORSAR.

      • Surveys designed in MESA can be loaded into NORSAR.
      • Illumination maps computed in NORSAR can be loaded into MESA.

      SEGY property import

      • Improved symmetry axis import for TTI models.
      • Improvements in handling of SEGY files with incomplete geometry information.

      Modelling project edit

      • Improved unit handling when creating a project using a grid template.

      Tracer workflows

      • Enable setting retrace accuracy without having to re-do the retracing.
      • Added a timeout to prevent "eternal" waiting for rays to plot.
      • Added warning if there are no results for a selected shot/ray code.
      • Fixed bug in setting single force source vector. Vector component was not allowed to be negative.
      • Improved handling for invalid shot positions for S-sources.
      • Some dense surveys originating from SPS-import were not properly read into the tracer.

      Seismogram generator

      • Did not properly support anisotropic S
      • Require inclusion of reflection/transmission effects when single force S-source

      Travel time cube export

      • Incorrect shot coordinates in exported SEGY

      General Model Builder

      • Display interfaces with borders as default, such that internal borders are visible
      • Splitting an interface in topologically disconnected parts, now also available in horizons view
      • Improved handling of switching between different model building modes

      Single block model builder

      • Fixed bug causing an error when trying to generate a model with very small smoothing parameter (<10 m).

      Event Attribute Extractor

      • Some clarifications in the help about different event attributes.
