    NORSAR Software Suite release notes

    • NORSAR Software Suite 2017.2 (2017.2.38812, September 14, 2017)

      NORSAR-3D

      This is a bugfix release which addresses the following issues:

      N3D Event Attribute Extractor
      • Minor GUI issue with menu items listed multiple times
      Illumination Map and Simulated Migration Amplitudes workflows
      • Problems with job subdivision when running a large Inline/Crossline survey generated in classic NORSAR-3D
      Interactive wavefront tracer workflow 
      • Time steps in storing of wavefronts were wrong if other than default time sampling 
      Grid Layer cake Model builder
      • Check for conformal grids sometimes failed, causing initially conformal grids to be refused 
      Workflows using wavefront tracer

      This is a bugfix release which addresses the following issues:

      Workflows using wavefront tracer

      • Surveys named with prefix "z_" were treated as internal auto generated surveys, and deleted when settings were changed

      SeisRoX Full-field workflows

      • Illumination functions were always empty if layered 2D background models were used
    • NORSAR Software Suite 2017.2 (2017.2.38627, August 10, 2017)

      NORSAR-3D

      This is a bugfix release which addresses the following issues:

      N3D Model display
      • Volume resolution only worked from Models->3D object list item, not when right-clicking on the model
         
      Various workflows
      • Topological shot selection did not work properly for classic NORSAR-3D inline/crossline surveys
         
      Event Attribute Extractor
      • Topological shot selection did not work properly for classic NORSAR-3D inline/crossline surveys
         
      Common Shot Wavefront Tracer workflows
      • Error in index conversion for classic NORSAR-3D inline/Crossline surveys caused errors in retracing
      • For some imported SPS surveys, the tracer failed to read receiver subselections for a shot, resulting in failed tracer jobs 
         
      Exploding Reflector (NIP) Wavefront Tracer
      • On Linux version, total geometrical spreading, and hence event amplitudes were 0 for all events
         
      Seismogram Generator
      • Running seismogram generation based on an Exploding Reflector workflow always failed
      • Ray code subselection did not work properly
         
      Kirchhoff Prestack workflow
      • Plotting of model and survey did not work
      • Receiver position in the generated SEGY headers were wrong for receiver indices >50, causing problems for migration

      In addition, minor bug fixes and stability improvements.

    • NORSAR Software Suite 2017.1 (2017.1.38511, July 5, 2017)

      This is a bugfix release which addresses an issue where in a certain situation the project could become corrupted.

    • NORSAR Software Suite 2017.2 (2017.2.38506, July 4, 2017)

      This release contains the following updates and fixes:
       

      Common NORSAR Software Suite functionality
       

      SEGY Property import, SEGY Seismic import

      • Added option to specify a valid data range for property values also for (velocities and density) (New)
      • Importing large cubes (typically 2GB+) sometimes led to write failure when storing the NSS cube, especially on Windows. Now more robust writing.
      • On importing non-standard property types, the property type name was blanked out. Fixed now

      VSP Survey generator

      • Fixed limitation in line length for shot grid surveys

      Workflows – general

      • Fixes on archiving
      • Recovering workflows using the tracer would eventually lead to only one tracer job being run

      Model Builder

      • Remove value-range in property functions: Now the values in the range are replaced by no-values, not a default, valid constant value.
      • Property functions and interfaces can now be stored and removed .
      • Clipping of interfaces by polygons is improved.
      • Block relations for multi-z-valued interfaces are shown and can be set. “+” and “-“ replaces “Above” and “Below” for this type of interfaces.
      • To support the “+” and “-“ specifications, the hot cursor information includes plot of the positive interface unit normal.
      • Fixed to make attenuation and Thomsen property functions by interpolation.
      • Fixed to load model with non-VTI anisotropy axis of symmetry.
      • Removed some unnecessary warnings when a model is checked for validity.
      • Minor fixes of user interface details.
         

      NORSAR-3D
       

      Kirchhoff Target Migration workflow

      • Unit conversion when specifying aperture settings in a project not defined in km units fixed
      • Error on interpreting receiver depths from pre-stack SEGY header fixed
      • Error with blank results when running a workflow for which two distinct Greens Functions are generated fixed
      • Workflow names with lengths greater than approx. 70 characters always failed. Now this limit is significantly higher
      • Sometimes when rerunning after a change in parameters, workflow stalled. Now fixed
      • More robust failure handling on Greens Function reading. Files were not closed

      Kirchhoff Prestack workflow

      • Workflow names with lengths greater than approx. 70 characters always failed. Now this limit is significantly higher
      • Artifact in seismic results due to lookup table aliasing. Removed lookup table when not specified
      • Inconsistent units in workflow setup
      • Remove shot similarity in Greens Function Generation
      • Fix bug that changes in advanced tracing parameters was not taking effect
      • More robust failure handling on Greens Function reading. Files were not closed
      • When finding geometric bounds of a target model, now only selected horizons affect the results

      Toolkits

      • Range check in grconf2.f, as suggested by PGS

      Ray path generator (Classic tools)

      • Ported to handle new event sets

      Tracer workflows

      • Added option to plot wavefronts as wireframes
      • Added dialog based retracing, where receiver topology, and TravelTime, Offset, Aperture, Amplitude filters can be set
      • Stored wavefronts were plotted at the wrong time step if tracing time step was not 0.1s
      • Recover did not work after batch tracing canceled. Always restarted. Enabled recover

      Seismogram generator

      • Incomplete result tree, and crash when checking the “Results” box

       

      SeisRoX

      • Added functionality
        • Calculate Time attribute cubes based on VP in the Local-target PSDM simulation workflow
        • Export “Difference cubes” as SEGY based on base, and monitor, time attribute cubes
      • Fixed crash when plotting an empty property
      • Fixed crash when deactivating "no clipping" in viewer

       

      MDesign

      • Sensors can be set enabled/disabled directly in the workflow setup
      • Unit can be changed for Location Uncertainty results
      • Sensor files can be used in the NORSAR-3D Traveltime Cube Generator workflow
    • NORSAR Software Suite 2017.1 (2017.1.38170, May 26, 2017)

      NORSAR-3D

      This is a bugfix release which addresses the following issues:

      Illumination and Simulated Migration Amplitude workflows

      • Some filter- and multi-map attributes did not work
      • Error when changing workflow contents and generating new maps on a predefined batch tracer workflow:
      • Temporary illumination map groups are not deleted  after generation, which causes problems when rerunning workflows. They also take up unnecessary disk space.

      Illumination function operator

      • Ascii free point data import onto existing illumination map groups did not work
      • Select map from another illumination map group did not work  

      Kirchhoff prestack modelling

      • Recover functionality after jobs had crashed did not work. Results were corrupt and recover did not work

      Kirchhoff Target Migration

      • Noise was not added to results

      Surface Import

      • Bug when analyzing freepoint grids with specific axis layouts
      • Minor change: For ascii x-y-z freepoint readers, lines starting with “#” are treated as comments and will not break import
      • Enable loading of trimesh files with multiple faces, where vertex indexing restarts at every face

      SPS Survey Import

      • Bug occasionally causing empty surveys

      General Model Builder

      • Bug in plotting variable properties in blocks

      Model building tools and object list properties

      • Long file names causing property cube smoothing to fail    

      Object list illumination map display

      • Multimap sorting now consistent with workflows

       

      SeisRoX

      This is a bugfix release which addresses the following issue:

      SEG-Y Export for all angle ranges

      • Now exports one SEG-Y cube for each angle range specified in the PSDM simulation settings instead of just the summation cube
    • NORSAR Software Suite 2017.1 (2017.1.38086, April 28, 2017)

      NORSAR-3D

      This is a bugfix release which addresses the following issues:

      • Illumination Map and Simulated Migration Amplitude workflows:
        • Error in job subdivision for some survey geometries leading to shots not being used in the illumination mapping process.
           
      • Missing online help in the Event Attribute Extractor.
         
      • Problems running anisotropic models in the NIP tracer.

       

      SeisRoX

      This is a bugfix release which addresses an issue in the SeisRoX Full-field workflows:

      • Crash in SeisRoX Full-field, primarily on high latency file systems, where multiple processes try to create the same directory concurrently, causing a race condition.
    • NORSAR Software Suite 2017.1 (2017.1.38070, April 21, 2017)

      NORSAR-3D

      NORSAR-3D 2017.1 features a novel NORSAR-3D Expert version which is now available for both Windows and Linux operating systems. NORSAR-3D Expert 2017.1 includes the Basic and the Pro version and in addition a comprehensive set of tools and workflows to build complex models and do illumination studies and survey planning for any type of acquisition geometries.

      Major new features in this version are:
      A redesigned efficient batch wavefront tracer workflow, which makes it very easy to re-use tracing results in various applications. Thus, survey planning studies become much more efficient and flexible.

      The new Expert version contains an Exploding reflector (NIP) workflow, a traveltime cube generator and more advanced functionalities in the recently upgraded model builder. These additional functionalities enable the user to build highly complex models with various input elements and adapt to the requirements of ray tracing. 

      NORSAR-3D Basic
      NORSAR-3D Basic provides comprehensive information about the coverage of subsurface targets, ranging from overview maps of the entire target area to detailed analysis of angular and azimuthal coverage of selected points of interest. The studies can be survey-independent, providing the upper possible illumination limit, only restricted by the subsurface properties; or the illumination capabilities can be studies for a specific survey.

      Import

      • Support for IRAP ASCII and binary grids

      In addition, minor bug fixes and stability improvements are done for the NORSAR-3D Basic version.

      NORSAR-3D Pro 
      NORSAR-3D Pro includes the Basic version, and in addition it contains a comprehensive set of tools and workflows to build complex models and to do illumination studies and survey planning for any type of acquisition geometries. NORSAR-3D Pro 2017.1 is backwards compatible with older versions of NORSAR-3D project data.

      Model Builder

      • Improved cutting of two interfaces
      • Improved plot options
      • Adding option for arbitrary symmetry axis for TTI anisotropic media

      Prestack Kirchhoff Modelling

      • Fixed bug when using different sampling for the GF’s in survey and target area

      NORSAR-3D Expert
      NORSAR-3D Pro includes the Basic and Pro version, and in addition it contains:

      Model Builder Expert - NEW 
      Now a novel interactive 3D model builder expert is available. It contains all functionalities of the Pro version and thus allows to build complex 3D models, and it displays the model elements in the 3D viewer with access to all other project elements. In addition the model builder expert includes:

      • Use interfaces of any shape, including multi-z-valued interfaces.
      • Intersect and combine interfaces. 
      • Extrapolate Interfaces.
      • Detailed, interactive editing of interfaces. 

      Model Gridder - NEW 
      Make property cubes from any existing NORSAR-3D model is now available, this functionality allows to build background models with different smoothing operators suitable for e.g., the traveltime generator workflow.

      Interactive Wavefront Tracer - NEW
      The re-designed interactive tracer can be used to analyze the ray tracing results in more details for one selected shot location. The propagated wavefronts can be plotted as well as the corresponding ray attributes such as traveltimes and amplitudes. 

      Exploding Reflector (NIP) - NEW
      The Exploding Reflector (Normal Incidence Point) tracer provides fast modelling of the reflections for zero-offset survey geometries.

      Traveltime Generator - NEW
      This workflow allows in an easy to use manner to generate traveltime cubes which can be used for, e.g. prestack depth migration.

      Batch Wavefront Tracer - NEW
      This new workflow allows to compute ray attributes for large surveys in batch mode. These results can afterwards easily re-used in all other application workflows, such as Seismogram generator and Simulated migration amplitudes.

      Event Attribute Extractor – NEW
      All ray attributes generated by the wavefront tracer can be accessed and exported in ASCII format.

      Kirchhoff Target Modelling
      Kirchhoff Target migration workflow can be used to generate migrated sections from Kirchhoff pre-stack data. This workflow can be used for e.g. velocity sensitivity studies. 

      In addition, minor bug fixes and stability improvements.

    • NORSAR Software Suite 2017 (2017.0.37280, February 22, 2017)

      NORSAR-3D

      NORSAR-3D 2017 features a novel NORSAR-3D Pro version which is now available on both operation systems Windows and Linux. NORSAR-3D Pro 2017 includes the Basic version and in addition a comprehensive set of tools and workflows to build complex models and do illumination studies and survey planning for any type of acquisition geometries. Major new features in this version are: A complete new interactive 3D Model Builder for creating from simple to complex 3D models, a redesigned intelligent Ray Tracer workflow to study wave propagation in detail, and improved workflows to generate Illumination Maps and Synthetic Seismograms. In addition an innovative batch system is included for distributed parallel processing of large simulation jobs on a cluster of Windows  or Linux machines.

      The NORSAR-3D Pro version is the upgrade version for existing customers.

      NORSAR-3D Pro

      NORSAR-3D Pro includes the Basic version, and in addition it contains a comprehensive set of tools and workflows to build complex models and to do illumination studies and survey planning for any type of acquisition geometries. NORSAR-3D Pro 2017 is backwards compatible with older versions of NORSAR-3D project data, and it is released on both Windows and Linux.

      Model Builder - NEW

      Now a novel interactive 3D model builder is available. It allows to build complex 3D models, and it displays the model elements in the 3D viewer with access to all other project elements.

      The model builder includes:

      Use interfaces of any shape, including multi-z-valued interfaces.
      Intersect and combine interfaces.
      Build blocks (volumes) automatically as well as interactively with extensive graphical support.
      Set P- and S-wave velocities, densities, Q-factors, and Thomsen parameters as constants, grids, or cubes independently in each block.
      Use VTI anisotropy as well as axis of symmetry orthogonal to the layering.
      Allow gaps and undefined areas in the models.

      Interactive Tracer workflow - NEW

      The re-designed interactive tracer can be used to analyze the ray tracing results in more details for one selected shot location. The propagated wavefronts can be plotted as well as the corresponding ray attributes such as traveltimes and amplitudes.

      Seismogram Generation workflow - NEW

      The Seismogram generation workflow generates synthetic pre-stack seismic data for a user-selected part of the wavefield based on dynamic ray tracing. Both isotropic and anisotropic models are allowed, and in these structural models any combination of reflected, transmitted and converted P- and S-waves can be propagated. 

      Simulated migration amplitude workflow - NEW

      Simulated Migration Amplitude (SMA) maps show estimates of how the amplitude will vary along the target reflector after pre-stack depth migration. This workflow allows you to investigate effects on illumination including attenuation effects in the overburden as well as varying reflectivity at the target. The Simulated Migration Amplitude workflow does not only compute the SMA maps; in addition it computes all the attribute maps that are also made in the Illumination Map Workflows.

      Distributed parallel processing – NEW

      When running a workflow, it is distributed over all available CPU's and cores on the local  computer. This improves computer speed significantly. In addition, it is also possible to distribute these jobs to other computers available in the network. The execution time of the workflow will decrease dramatically.

      In addition, minor bug fixes and stability improvements.

    • NORSAR Software Suite 2016.2 (2016.2.36117, November 28, 2016)

      NORSAR-3D

      This is a bugfix and stability improvement release.

      It fixes the following issues in NORSAR-3D:

      • Crash in Trimesh import (Gocad Format)
      • Bug in 2nd derivative plots for NORSAR-3D models and property cubes
      • Plotting large NORSAR-3D models caused delays when plotting/unplotting other smaller objects
      • Grid layer cake model builder: Bug when using velocity gradients in the lowermost layer
      • Grid layer cake model builder: wrong gradient units
      • Inconsistency in mouse rotation in the viewer
      • Maximized polar plots popping up
      • Turning off Active shot in survey plot options caused a void in the survey display where we can expect a shot displayed as other shots.

      • Bug in Kirchhoff Target Migration when Green's Function steps differed between horizontal and vertical directions. Could not reuse its own Green's Function
      • Using an imported SPS survey in Illumination Map workflows failed
      • Error in illumination map color mapping when scaler is negative
      • Kirchhoff prestack and target migration did not limit selection to isotropic models
      • NORSAR-3D classic modules (under Tools menu) won't start on some Linux systems

       

      SeisRoX

      This is a bugfix and stability improvement release.

      It fixes the following issues in SeisRoX:

      • When copying a Full-field workflow, and then changing the original workflow, an error occured that results could not be cleaned up because of dependencies
      • Full-field workflows: Can setup 2D target, not handled by process
      • Full-field workflows: Inline-Crossline defined target box was wrong
      • Full-field workflows: UTM option for target box is wrong. Removed
      • Missing right-click menus on SeisRoX utility workflows
      • Added warning that wavelets are zero-phased in the SeisRoX processes
      • Added possibility to generate PSFs and Filters after workflow was run
    • NORSAR Software Suite 2016.1 (2016.1.35174, July 22, 2016)

      NORSAR-3D

      This is a bugfix and stability improvement release.

      It fixes a licensing issue for the wavefront batch tracer for NORSAR-3D Pro and Expert.

      In addition, several minor bugfixes.

       

      SeisRoX

      This is a bugfix and stability improvement release.

      It fixes several issues for the Full-field workflow:

      • Target cubes larger than 3 GB were corrupted on writing to file
      • Process stops if some shots are outside the model when tracing part is finished
      • Data cleanup problems if only one GF
      • Clean intermediate results if target geometry changed (only cleaned up workflow data before.) Could lead to inconsistency.
      • Combined tracer/full-field progress monitor. Display tracer logs.

      In addition minor bugfixes and improvements.
