Release Notes for older version of NORSAR-3D

Version 5.7.2 is a maintenance release with improvements in functionality and stability mainly in the Model Builder, VSP Survey Generator, Wavefront Tracer and Cube Import.

In addition it includes a new SEGY Property Import module and important bug and stability fixes.

SEGY Property Import - NEW

• New import module for SEGY properties and 3D seismic cubes.

VSP Survey Generator

• Fixed a bug for VSP Walk Around spiral surveys, where the spiral didn't have the correct distance between shots and number of shots.

Model Builder

• Corrected bug that resulted in very uneven smoothing of property cubes if the cube sampling steps in the three directions were very different. Most commonly, the cubes where smoothed as expected in the x- and y-directions, while there was almost no smoothing in the z-direction. Now smoothing is even in the three directions.
• Much faster 'Loading of property grid as interface', especially for large property grids.

Common shot and NIP Wavefront Tracers

• Option to store up to a user specified number of events per ray code, independent of the number of events for the other ray codes.

Version 5.7.1 is a bugfix release.

Kirchhoff Prestack Modelling

• Fixed severe bug in wavelet resampling causing bad results when sampling is different between wavelet and trace

Kirchhoff and Illumination Map - Batch

• Fixed bug when batch server is stopping during time demanding processes

Viewer - Reflectivity viewer

• Fixed crash on 32-bit systems

Survey Generator

• Fixed that some surveys could not be edited

Startup scripts

• Fixed problem that user defined environment variables are not exported correctly on some systems

In addition minor bug fixes and improvements.

Version 5.7 introduces full 64-bit support, meaning that applications no longer have an upper limit of 2 GB data use.

It also includes a new Kirchhoff Prestack Modelling workflow and a reflectivity viewer where reflectivity can be plotted as a function of incident angle, and a 2D SEGY previewer for simple inspection of external SEGY files.

In addition it includes important bug and stability fixes.

Version 5.6.2 is a bugfix release with some minor additions in functionality.

Model Builder

• Extended check when a model is stored. Warning is shown if:
  • There is no impedance contrast across an interface
  • A property grid/cube is undefined along an interface that is used in the definition of the corresponding block
  • The velocity gradient is very large close to an interface
• Project an interface down on interfaces and/or polygons
  • Option for vertical projection
• Store interfaces:
  • By default curvatures are no longer calculated (like in TriMesh import)

TriMesh Import

• Can now have more than one interface on an input ".ts" file. The interfaces must be separated by the "TFACE" statement
• Much faster import of large interfaces, because, as default, curvatures are no longer calculated. (Curvatures are only needed if the interfaces are to be used in "Model Assembler")

Survey Generator

• Added new VSP survey types
  • Walk-around

Event Extractor

• Add filter options on event parameters

Version 5.6.1 is a maintenance release with improvements in functionality and some minor bugfixes.

Illumination Map

• Workaround to prevent crash of imap viewer on some VNC based system, by optionally embedding a 5.4.5 viewer into Illumination Map
• Illuminate both sides of illumination maps to avoid blacked out surfaces
• Display and export DEPTH and DIP maps. Not available for 5.4.5 illumination map viewer
• Possible to turn off standard SMA illumination maps and still generate other SMA maps
• Post-critical angle filter in the Illumination map setup
• More informative mapping domain names in Illumination Map setup

lllumination Map - Batch

Version 5.6 introduces well import and a completely new VSP survey generator. It also includes support for Green’s Function generation for SeisRoX 3.0 Full-field. In addition it includes important bug and stability fixes.

Version 5.5.2 contains new functionality in the Model Builder, important stability fixes, minor improvements and miscellaneous bug fixes.

Survey Import

• New option ‘Use All Point Indices’. The Point Index will be used together with the ‘Line Name’ and ‘Point Number’ to identify a shot/receiver pair.

Model Builder

• Compute polygons which delineate coincident areas on interfaces.  To be used in combination with the ‘Cut by polylines’-function to  remove duplicated parts of interfaces (‘zero-thickness’ areas).
• Decimation of interfaces. Reduces adaptively the number of triangles used to represent interfaces, with no significant change in shape.
• Fill in all small holes on interfaces.
• In Cross sections, new options:
  • Set line width for the interfaces.
  • Optionally plot black ribbons along the interfaces where no block/horizon is assigned.
• Fixed reloading model issue
• The ’Adaptive’ option in the iso-surface computation is removed. In some cases the computed iso-surface was strange and wrong.
• Corrected the Simplify polyline function. A bug prevented use of simplified polylines in other functions, even though the polylines looked ok.

Illumination Map

• Fixed crash with error message ‘Unknown color mapping function’

Illumination Map Batch

• More robust parallel processing handling

• Graphic card compatibility issue: Enable use of N3D imap viewer version 5.4.6 with all version 5.5 functionality available, for the rare cases when the illumination map module crashes due to GLX problems due to the graphic card driver

• Fixed bug where the viewer hangs when using  modelling projects with a very large project area
• Fixed license handling error
